Start with untreated base course. It goes under driveways, parking pads, slabs and paver work.

From there, the ground tells you what else the job needs.

Materials for Washington Projects

Drainage is the place to start on this ground. Washed stone, French drains, drywells and downspout runs all move water away from a slab or a footing, and each one wants a different size stone.

Drain rock, which Utah yards also call washed rock or 3/4 inch washed rock, is the clean stone for French drains, footing and foundation drains, window wells, drywells and downspout runs. It is washed, so the voids stay open and water keeps moving.

Where a smaller washed stone fits tighter, 3/8 inch crushed stone, also called 3/8 inch chip, handles fine drainage, pipe bedding and paver joints. It also works as a thin topping over a compacted base.

For heavier drainage, #4 crushed stone goes into trench bottoms and construction entrances. #57 stone and #67 stone sit between the two sizes and handle drainage and concrete aggregate work.

Riprap, also called riprap or rock riprap, armors wash banks, culvert outlets, irrigation ditch banks and cut slopes against flash runoff. Large river rock, or 4 to 6 inch cobble, does similar work in dry creek beds and swales.

Under all of it, untreated base course is the compacting base. Order it by top size, 3/4 inch minus or 1 1/2 inch minus, and the yard ticket matches the plan.

On top, crusher fines, also called screenings or pathway chat, surface paths and trails and bed pavers and flagstone. Natural Pea Gravel, or 3/8 inch Natural Pea Gravel, suits walkways, play areas, dog runs and pipe surround.

Sand and soil round out a job. Washed sand beds and levels under pavers and slabs, mason sand handles brick and block work and paver joints, and screened topsoil starts a lawn on ground that is often stripped to clay subsoil.

Delivery to Washington and the Surrounding Area

Utah Rock Supply delivers bulk material across Washington and the rest of Washington County, including St. George, Hurricane, Ivins, Santa Clara and La Verkin.

You order online, choose a quantity by the ton or by the yard, and pick a delivery date at checkout. A dump truck then tips the load on your site in one pile.

Each product page has a calculator to help you size the load before you order. Material arrives as a tipped pile, so plan where you want it set down before the truck backs in.

Ground and Conditions in Washington

This part of the state runs close to a year-round working season, with summer heat rather than frost setting the limit. That means you can time a delivery to the job rather than to a thaw.

Across the Southwest Utah ground, from the St. George basin to the Escalante Desert, the soil is sandy and gravelly over red sandstone and volcanic rock, with heavy expansive clay in places.

It is alkaline and low in organic matter, so imported topsoil and garden soil do the work native ground cannot.

Summer monsoon cloudbursts and winter frontal rain fall on ground that takes in very little. The washes rise fast, and clay ground holds water under slabs and flatwork.

That is why drainage stone matters here. A clean washed stone under a downspout run or in a French drain gives water somewhere to go instead of sitting against a footing.

Erosion follows the same pattern: flash flooding in the washes, sheet flow off bare desert slopes and alluvial fans, and wind moving loose sandy ground. Riprap and large cobble hold banks and swales where smaller stone would move.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about gravel and aggregate delivery in Washington, UT

Do you deliver untreated base course to Washington, UT?

Yes. Utah Rock Supply delivers untreated base course, the UTBC that Utah plans and yards name on a ticket, to Washington and the surrounding part of Washington County. You order online by the ton or by the yard, choose a delivery date at checkout, and a dump truck tips the load on your site. The base goes under driveways, parking pads, slabs, shed bases and paver work.

What gravel is best for a driveway in Washington?

It depends on the drive. Untreated base course, sold as 3/4 inch minus or 1 1/2 inch minus, is the compacting base under a new drive. Driveway gravel surfaces an existing drive or tops a compacted base. On this ground, put drainage stone at the edges so monsoon runoff has somewhere to go. Each product page has a calculator to size the load.

Where will the material be placed?

Wherever you tell us, as long as the truck can safely reach it. Mark the spot before the delivery and someone should be on site to point the driver to it. If nobody can be there, leave clear instructions when you order and we will follow them.
