Everything You Need to Know About #4 Crushed Stone

- Angular crushed stone
Old lakebed clay along the Wasatch Front can swell when snowmelt arrives, leaving ground soft below a driveway or detached-garage pad. #4 Crushed Stone gives that water space to move through the aggregate instead of staying concentrated under traffic. On gravel benches, drainage may move away quickly, but a stable open support course can still be useful where loads cross the site. Its crushed form helps it resist movement under heavy use.
Place #4 Crushed Stone as the lower aggregate course, with a tighter finish material above when a smoother surface is needed. This use helps keep the coarse stone focused on support and drainage below the traffic area. In Utah Valley and Cache Valley, it can also serve erosion-control work in ditches or on slopes where spring runoff needs a durable material that does not readily close into a tight layer.

Common Uses
Heavy-Duty Base
For road base driveways and busy access areas, it creates a steady layer below traffic.
Erosion Control
On slopes, ditches, and channels, larger rock helps prevent runoff from carrying material away.
High-Volume Drainage
The spaces among the stones allow substantial runoff to drain through rapidly.
Gabion Fill
Its dimensions work well in gabion baskets and for retaining applications.
Why Choose #4 Crushed Stone
Strong Drainage
Wide gaps between the stones accommodate substantial runoff.
Load Bearing
It helps the aggregate layer stay put under equipment and traffic.
Erosion Resistant
Angular, weighty stone is suited to staying settled along slopes.
Durable Base
It provides a foundation layer built for continued use.
