Snowmelt on old lakebed clay can change site conditions quickly along the Wasatch Front, while gravelly benches may shed water too readily. #89 Crushed Stone has fines that help its angular crushed pieces settle into a tighter finish. It is suited to confined hardscape areas, not to an open drainage layer intended to move water through the site. That distinction matters where spring moisture and soil movement affect the preparation below a finished surface.
After the supporting layer is prepared, work this material into paver gaps or use it for flagstone setting, then compact it for a firm result. This placement keeps the close-fitting aggregate in the part of the project where it performs as intended. #89 Crushed Stone can also be selected for chip-seal surface work or a concrete mix requiring compactable fine aggregate.
