Using excavated Lake Bonneville clay in place of selected sand is a common mistake on Wasatch Front work. Washed Sand gives Utah concrete preparation, utility bedding, grade adjustment, and general fill a coarse material processed to remove fine soil content and natural debris. That distinction matters when snowmelt affects clay ground or when a project needs material that can be placed neatly in a prepared area.
At a trench or concrete form, guide Washed Sand into corners, voids, and narrow spaces before returning surrounding material. This placement method is useful where changing moisture conditions make site soil harder to handle, including Utah Valley and Cache Valley projects. The sand is also appropriate for filling around pipe and bringing a prepared surface to grade. Keep the work area separated from loose native soil while placing it, so the washed aggregate remains suited to the task it was selected for.

Common Uses
Concrete and Mortar
For concrete and mortar, washed sand works as a key aggregate. Its controlled particle range helps produce even, strong batches for structural pours including slabs, foundations, and walls.
Backfill and Trenches
Place washed sand in utility trenches, post holes, and areas excavated beside foundations. The washed material can be compacted in tight locations and helps keep drainage systems free of contaminants.
Site Leveling
Use washed sand to correct low areas, set drainage slopes, and prepare a construction site. It moves readily into shallow depressions and compacts to an even surface. On the Wasatch Front, establish grades with spring snowmelt in mind.
Bedding for Utilities
Washed sand creates an even bed around buried pipes, conduit, and cable. It settles around the installation without abrading coatings, helping limit movement and concentrated loading.
Why Choose Washed Sand
Washed Sand Processing
Washing separates out clay, silt, and organic debris that may affect concrete mixes or drainage. This leaves sand suitable for applications that call for clean aggregate.
Uniform Particle Range
Washed sand has an even distribution of grain sizes for dependable placement in concrete, bedding, and fill applications. That uniformity helps results remain predictable from one use to the next.
Multi-Use Construction Sand
Washed sand can be specified for concrete, pipe bedding, and grading work. Using it across these applications may limit the specialty materials required at a job site.
Bulk Quantities
Bulk washed sand is available with per-ton pricing for larger work. A single delivery may provide material for more than one construction phase.
